White House Sees No Sign Of Threat To Taiwan Ahead Of Pelosi Trip

US-CHINA

White House National Security Spokesperson John Kirby has told reporters that the US is yet to see signs of a Chinese military reaction to a potential trip to Taiwan from Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

  • Kirby: "The US has seen no physical sign, tangible proof of looming Chinese military activity against Taiwan."
  • Kirby also gave a brief description of the call between President Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping yesterday: "President Biden's call with China's Xi Jinping was "very professional" and "businesslike" in tone."
  • White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich: "Kirby tells me on Taiwan // possible Pelosi visit // Chinese military response: "There's no reason for it to come to come to blows, to come to increased physical tension. There's no reason for that because there's been no change in American policy."
  • Pelosi is yet to confirm or deny her trip to Taiwan but is expected to visit the island as soon as this weekend as part of a wider tour of the Indo-Pacific region.
