Winter Travel Demand Boosts Asian Jet Margins

JET FUEL

Rising demand for air travel during winter is boosting refinery margins for jet fuel, according to Bloomberg.

  • This leaves jet fuel as the outlier, with margins for other fuels weakening.
  • China’s jet fuel demand is expected to hit 0.86m b/d in Jan, the highest since 2020, according to BNEF. Meanwhile, India’s jet fuel demand has surpassed pre-pandemic levels since November.
  • This has pushed the Singapore regrade swap – an indicator of the profitability of producing jet fuel – to over 50% above the five-year average.
  • Jet fuel demand across Asia but excluding China is expected to increase by 150k b/d in 2024 and reach near 2019 levels, according to FGE.
