WTI Open Interest Picks Up While Traded Volumes Remain Near Normal

Nymex WTI open interest has halted the declining trend seen for much of October and back up to 1.67m from a low of 1.62m last week but compared to 1.8m seen at the start of the month. WTI aggregate futures daily traded volumes are holding steady at 0.721m yesterday and in line with the average of the last couple of weeks. Daily traded options volumes were yesterday at 145k compared to 128k average last week.

  • Brent crude futures open interest has remained relatively unchanged at 2.22m yesterday. Aggregate daily traded futures volumes are still below the high levels seen in early October with yesterday at 1.00m contracts while options volumes have also fallen back to 191k but still above the average seen this year.
  • ICE Gasoil futures open interest has continued to slowly recover to 0.677m after falling to the lowest since May on 11 Oct. Daily traded futures volumes were yesterday down to 200k and options volumes at 2.7k.
  • Nymex ROB gasoline futures open interest has dipped back from levels last week to 0.317m yesterday while daily traded volumes were back up to 148k.
