Zelenskyy Speaks On Counteroffensive, Ukraine Unity & US Stance

UKRAINE

Speaking at a Reuters Next event, Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelenskyy claims that "We have a plan to continue fighting after slow counteroffensive in the south...I'm sure we will have success, but it's difficult." Adds that"We could not manage today's battlefield results without Western support."

  • Zelenskyy: "It is important for Ukrainiansnot to lose unity, Western leaders influence this too...It is difficult for the West when there is conflict in the Middle East, there are many challenges...We will still try to deliver a result on the battlefield this year."
  • Zelenskyy: "If Ukraine is broken by Russia there will be dozens of millions of migrants to NATO countries."
  • Zelenskyy: "It is up to Americans to elect their president. I don't know if a Trump presidency is good or bad for Ukraine...Ukrainians are afraid of some voices in the Republican party, of a possible change in US foreign policy."
  • As we note in today's US Daily Brief, the trend of the GOP appears to be leading away from continued significant materiel support for Ukraine, "Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) yesterday stated publicly for the first time that Senate Republicans would not vote in favour of additional Ukraine aid without measures on the US-Mexico border. A notable shift in tone from the GOP leader who has been a powerful advocate for passing Biden’s USD$106b national security supplemental in its entirety."
