JAPAN: A quick look at the details re: long term bond purchases in Japan's BoP
current account data for the month of November 2019:
- US Tsys: Japanese investors shed net U.S. Tsy holdings (Y376.8bn) for the
first time since May 2019 and at the fastest pace seen since March 2019,
although the size of the net sales was fairly limited when compared to the 5
previous months of buying (both individually and cumulatively).
- German FI: Japanese investors shed German FI holdings (Y114.3bn) for a 5th
month in 6, although the pace stepped down from the selling seen in October.
- OATs: Solid net buying from Japanese investors (Y453.5), more than reversing
the selling seen over the previous 2 months.
- BTPs: Net selling from Japanese investors (Y66.1bn), more than reversing
October's net purchases.
- Gilts: Small net purchases from Japanese investors (Y22.8), breaking a streak
of 4 consecutive months of net selling.
- Aussie: Nominal net buying from Japanese investors (Y5.2bn), representing a
2nd straight month of net purchases.
