Agricultural Authorities Suspend Poultry Exports

  • The Agriculture and Livestock Service and the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed the detection of the first case of avian influenza in an industrial poultry plant in the center-south region of the country.
  • Agricultural authorities and the private sector agreed to coordinate actions to prevent the spread of the disease and have informed the World Organization for Animal Health of its self-suspension of exports.
  • Itaú have noted that while the potential lower demand for such meat poses downside CPI risks, if the epidemic results in the culling of significant livestock, upside pressures would materialize for chicken and eggs (as evident in several other countries; this equates to 1.4% of total CPI basket).
