Al Arabiya-Israel Refuses To Respond To Hamas 'Long Truce' Request

MIDEAST

Saudi-based Al Arabiyaposts on Xthat according to its sources, Israel has refused to respond to a 'long truce' requested by Hamas. This headline would seem to conflict with the earlier Al Jazeera headlinethat claimed negotiations were ongoing between Hamas and Israel. On both the Al Arabiya and Al Jazeera headlines there has been no further corroboration of their respective claims.

  • Markets are likely to remain extremely sensitive to any such headlines indicating either a reduction or intensification of hostilities in the region.
  • For its part there appears to be little sign of any move towards a ceasefire from Israel, with the second 'targeted strike' by IDF ground forces in Gaza overnight seen as a potential precursor to a wider ground incursion.
  • The EU has called for 'humanitarian pauses' in the conflict to allow for aid to get through. For greater detail see previous bullet.
