ANC Executives Convene First Ordinary Post-Election Meeting

SOUTH AFRICA

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) will hold its first ordinary meeting after the recent general election from today until Saturday, with issues such as the disappointing turnout and plans for the future expected to be at the top of the agenda. The NEC meeting will be followed by the NEC Lekgotla, which will take place from Sunday to Tuesday.

  • The ANC said that the aim of the meetings is to produce "clear directives to structures of the organisation and government departments on a strengthened strategy to improve service delivery and governance, as well as enhanced strategies for economic growth and social development."
  • The party's elections czar Mdumiseni Ntuli is expected to present a report outlining the reasons for the ANC's underwhelming showing in the recent elections, alongside a strategy to regain support in time for the 2026 local elections. Times LIVE reported that "the NEC will also investigate whether executive committees of poor-performing provinces such as KZN should be dissolved."
