ANC SecGen Mbalula Holds Media Briefing, Eskom Ramps Up Loadshedding

  • The ruling African National Congress (ANC) will hold a media briefing on the outcomes of the recent meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC). The executive body decided, among others, to suspend former President Jacob Zuma. The briefing will be hosted by the party's Secretary General Fikile Mbalula at 10:00GMT/12:00SAST.
  • Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor said that Israel was defying the International Criminal Court (ICJ) order to prevent genocide in Gaza and called on the international community to increase pressure on the country. She pushed back against allegations of receiving funding from Iran, while Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana added that South African banks were not involved in funding Hamas.
  • Eskom ramped up loadshedding to Stage 3 due to "the need to replenish emergency reserves and insufficient available generation capacity". The utility said that Stage 3 power cuts will remain in place until further notice.
  • South Africa's Absa Manufacturing PMI will be published at 09:00GMT/11:00SAST. Electricity production/consumption data is due at 11:00GMT/13:00SAST.
