Apex Court Hears Challenge To Zuma's Candidacy In National Election

  • The Constitutional Court will hear the Electoral Commission's (IEC's) challenge to ex-President Jacob Zuma's eligibility to run in elections today, with the clock ticking ahead of the May 29 polls. The IEC's original decision to bar Zuma from running over his earlier prison sentence was overturned by the Electoral Court, but the commission has taken the matter to the apex court.
  • The upper house of parliament (the National Council of Provinces) approved the Gold and Foreign Exchange Contingency Reserve Account Defrayal Amendment Bill to allow for the draw-down from the SARB's Gold and Foreign Exchange Contingency Reserve Account. The bill will become law once it is signed by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
  • The National Treasury will sell 1.875% 2033 linkers today.
