April Trade, Exports Close To Expectations, Weaker Imports Aid Trade Surplus

April China trade figures are out, with export growth close to expectations at 8.5% (8.0% was forecast). Imports contracted more than forecast -7.9% (estimate was -0.2%). This did aid the trade surplus though, still a healthy $90.21bn ($71.25bn forecast).

  • The market reaction has been limited though. USD/CNH is back to 6.9270/80, slightly lower, while AUD/USD is still under 0.6780. HSI is still holding lower, down 0.30% at this stage.
