Asian Medium/Heavy Sour Crude Volumes Slip 920kbd y/y

OIL

Asia has lost 920kbd of medium/heavy sour barrels in Q1 2024 y/y with more volumes at risk according to Vortexa.

  • Asian supply has been hit by OPEC+ cuts as well as Mexico/Kuwait reducing exports for domestic refining plans.
  • Venezuelan barrels are likely to head back to China now that US sanctions have been reimposed, offering some support for teapot refiners but pulling volumes away from India.
  • Higher volumes of sweeter crude in Asia are supportive of higher gasoline runs which could press margins.
