Assets Rise Modestly On Net Tsy Purchases

FED

A fairly straightforward week for Fed balance sheet watching, with a +$29.5bn increase in the week ending Weds May 5 accounted for almost entirely by a $25.7bn net rise in Treasury securities holdings. MBS, Agencies, and Bills holdings were flat (indeed MBS holdings are more or less flat over the past month - see chart), while TIPS holdings rose by $3.4bn. Overall, SOMA asset holdings hit a new record of $7.185bn.

  • We saw little change in other facilities either, with discount window borrowing rising $3.3bn and the Paycheck Protection Liquidity Facility size rising $4.1bn.
