AUSSIE: AUD/USD has edged lower and last sits at $0.7189 after closing 25 pips
higher. The rate knee-jerked higher in late NY trade Thursday as markets
absorbed the WSJ story suggesting that the U.S. is considering rolling back
tariffs on China. The story described U.S. Tsy Sec Mnuchin as a proponent of
tariff relief, meeting opposition from USTR Lighthizer. The report was
subsequently denied by the U.S. Tsy.
- Bears keep an eye on a series of DMAs at $0.7188 (55-DMA), $0.7183 (50-DMA) &
$0.7172 (100-DMA). A break below the $0.7188-$0.7172 region would open up
$0.7147, where the rate bottomed yesterday. Conversely, bulls need to retake
yesterday's peak at $0.7222 before challenging reported resistance at $0.7250.
- AU labour mkt report headlines the Aussie docket for next week.
