AUSSIE: AUD/USD holds steady at $0.6752 after giving away 34 pips on Monday. RBA
Asst Gov Kent will speak at 23:50 BST/08:50 AEST.
- The pair started this week on the back foot amid a broader risk-off mood, but
more than erased losses after a stronger than exp. PBoC yuan fix. It failed to
hold these gains, however and slid into yesterday's London morning as risk
aversion came to the fore again, with participants digesting signals of
political instability in Hong Kong, Italy, or Argentina. The decline halted
around $0.6750; the rate continued to test the level in a broadly sideways trade
through the rest of the day.
- Bears look for a clean break below the $0.6750-45 area, which registered
several lows this month. This would clear the way to the $0.6700 mark. Bulls
need a breach of the 100-HMA/200-HMA at $0.6774/86 before challenging the
$0.6800 figure; above there would improve outlook.
- Later in the day, Australian focus will turn to NAB biz. conf. survey. RBA Dep
Gov Debelle will appear on Wednesday & Thursday; the latter day will see the
release of the key jobs & wage data.
