ASIAN MARKETS, AUSSIE-YEN
AUSSIE-YEN: AUD/JPY last sits at Y78.72, 7 pips higher on the day as initial yen
strength waned somewhat as Japanese equities moved away from session lows. Worth
noting today's early Tokyo hours saw the release of the BoJ Dec meeting minutes,
which revealed that the Bank is concerned by China's slowing economy & the
impact of oil prices on inflation outlook. One member said there might be room
to revise JGB buying.
- Initial topside focus falls on Friday's high of Y78.84 and a breach of that
level would bring the 50-DMA at Y79.67 into view. Meanwhile, bears keep an eye
on the psychological Y78.00 level. A break below would open up the lower 1.0%
10-DMA envelope/yesterday's low at Y77.57/51.
- As a reminder, the vice-ministerial Sino-U.S. trade talks scheduled for
Wednesday-Thursday of this week will attract interest in the context of broader
risk environment.
