AUSSIE-YEN: It has been a quiet start to the new trading day for the
risk-barometer cross, the pair holding a tight Y87.82 to Y87.97. In the absence
of any data and with Japanese markets again closed for a local bank holiday,
range-trading would seem likely. It has been an impressive rally since early
December, the cross rising some 4.4% amid a rebound in key-commodity prices.
However, short-term indicators may show that momentum is waning, yesterday saw
the first close below the 5-dma (Y87.94) since Dec8, a close below 10-dma
(Y87.73) would reinforce that view.
