US VIEW: Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ econkomist Chris Rupkey said of Fed Chair
nominee Powell that "net, net" US Pres. Trump "chose a middle of the road, don't
rock the economy's boat, Fed Chairman, and this indeed is the man we got at
today's nomination hearing for Powell."
- "Powell has chosen a careful career path as a man who stays in the middle of
the road, and in that way he avoids making big mistakes that can lead one to
crash and go off the road" or "lose your job," Rupkey said. "A man in the middle
of the road makes fewer mistakes, big ones anyway, and this is likely to be the
guide to following the new Fed under Chairman Powell. Just get on base, don't
try to hit it out of the park. Slow and steady wins the race and this means we
don't see the Fed's current path of interest rates the next few years changing
much under a Fed Chairman Powell."
