BBG: EU Rules Out Concessions To UK On ECJ Re: NI Protocol

Bloomberg carrying a story claiming that the European Union has ruled out offering any concessions to the UK regarding the role of the European Court of Justice in the application of the Northern Ireland protocol. Story can be found here.

  • Reform to ECJ role in NI protocol has been one of the red lines for the UK, and if both sides hold firm on their current stances then there seems little prospect of an agreement being reached that doesn't involve triggering Art 16 and the UK disapplying the NI protocol.
  • Story comes as tensions between UK and France spike over fisheries, with France detaining a UK-flagged vessel for supposedly illegally fishing in French waters in the early hours of this morning.
