BER To Release Inflation Expectations Survey, SARB Governor To Speak

- The Bureau for Economic Research's quarterly Inflation Expectations Survey is expected to cross the wires at some point today. The previous Survey showed that average inflation expectations for this year stood at +6.1% Y/Y in 4Q2022, while all social groups revised their forecasts upwards. Separately, SARB Governor Lesetja Kganyago will speak at Wits University event today, while Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni will brief reporters on yesterday's Cabinet meeting.
- South Africa's security forces assigned a high-risk status to the "national shutdown" announced by the opposition Economic Freedom Fighters. BusinessDay reported that top security officials met on Monday to discuss the matter and agreed to deploy a large contingent of police, while keeping the military on standby. The party had earlier warned businesses to close their doors on Monday to avoid being looted.
- The National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union has suspended its strike after reaching an agreement with the government. The government reportedly agreed to review some of the union's 2022 demands during the ongoing 2023/24 wage negotiations.
