Biden And Von Der Leyen Hold Call To Discuss Her Recent Trip To China

US President Joe Biden has held a call with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to discuss her recent trip to China and underscore their commitments to both Ukraine and Taiwan.

  • The call comes amid the ongoing fallout from a flurry of trips by EU leaders to China which was widely views as failing to present a unified position on Taiwan.
  • French President Emmanuel Macron, who joined VDL on a joint French-EU Commission trip to Beijing, in particular was criticised in Washington for appearing to call for a new EU approach to China which eschewed guidance from the US.
