Biden Commends Omani Peace Contribution, Commits To Energy Cooperation

US President Joe Biden has commended Oman for its role in peace initiatives in the Middle East and committed to strengthening cooperation on clean, diversified, secure energy sources, following a call with Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.

  • According to a White House statement: "The two leaders reaffirmed the longstanding historical ties between our countries and peoples..."
  • "President Biden thanked Sultan Haitham for his personal leadership and support for the UN-mediated truce in Yemen... He also welcomed Oman’s recent decision to open its airspace to all civilian aircraft, including those flying to and from Israel."
  • White House: "Both leaders committed to strengthening the U.S.-Oman strategic partnership, trade and investment opportunities, and cooperation on clean, diversified, secure energy sources."
  • Earlier this week Reuters reported that, "Oman is in the preparation process to offer a new batch of oil and gas concession areas by the end of the first quarter of 2023... While the first batch will target onshore blocks, the Gulf-state will also offer offshore oil and gas blocks by the end of the second quarter of 2023."
