Biden's Approval Rating Dips To Lowest Level Since July 2022

US

President Biden's approval rating has continued to plunge with a number of negative recent surveys. According to RealClearPolitics, Biden's approval rating of 40.8% is the lowest he has experienced since July 2022 - the height of uncertainty over energy prices and inflation.

  • Biden's plunging approval, and persistent concerns over his age and competence, has prompted questions over the possibility Biden could step aside or receive a credible primary challenge.
  • With around 14 months until the election, the timeline for Biden to step aside is exceedingly tight but not impossible. California Governor Gavin Newsome (D-CA), Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D-PA), Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock (R-GA), and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D-IL) are amongst those circulated as potential Biden alternatives.
  • Such a scenario is highly unlikely so deep into a primary campaign season but not impossible. If Biden's number continues to sink relative to a resurgent campaign of former President Trump the White House may have to consider the possibility of a Biden-led, carefully orchestrated, transition into an open primary.
