Biden Says Missile That Struck Poland Unlikely Fired From Russia

SECURITY

Speaking after a summit with G7 leaders, U.S. President Joe Biden said that preliminary information suggests it is "unlikely" that the missile that hit Poland on Tuesday was fired from Russia, based on its trajectory.

  • The POTUS noted that the U.S. and its allies will help "figure out exactly what happened in Poland." Then, they will "collectively determine our next steps." They maintain full support for Ukraine in this moment, while condemning the ongoing Russian invasion.
  • Biden's comments appear to lend credence to the theory suggesting that the missile was launched from a Ukrainian air-defence system, possibly an S-300, during the latest barrage of Russian strikes on the nation's energy facilities.
  • Other options include the missile being launched by Russian troops operating on the territory of Ukraine or Belarus, albeit Biden would probably flag such suspicions. Note that no definitive conclusions can be drawn at this stage.
