US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking alongside the Qatari Prime Minister in Qatar, has told reporters that the US is studying the Hamas response to the ceasefire/hostages proposal "intensely," and he will, "pick up that conversation tomorrow in Israel when I'm there."
- Blinken: “Now that we have the response from Hamas to the proposal was put on the table a week or so ago, we’re going to be very intensely focused on on that," adding that the proposal, "would clearly be beneficial to everyone."
- Blinken: "I think that offers the best path forward. But there's a lot of work to be done to to achieve it. We're very focused on doing that work."
- Blinken says: “We've received the [Hamas] response to the proposal. We are studying it intensively. It's been shared with the with the Israelis, I'll pick up that conversation tomorrow in Israel when I'm there."
- Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani says: “We have just received the response few hours ago we sent it to the Israeli side. There will be further negotiations and discussions of the details and we hope that we will reach an agreement as soon as possible in coordination and cooperation with [US, Egypt, and other parties].”
- Blinken says on the US post-war plan for the region: "It isolates those who reject it, starting with Iran."
- Laura Rozen at Just Security notes that Blinken's comments point towards a strategy which tracks closely to a theoretical "Biden Doctrine" for the Middle East outlined by Thomas Friedman.
