Brazil Could See Rising Demand for LNG in Feb: Platts

Upcoming maintenance at Brazil’s Rota 1 offshore gas pipeline could boost support for LNG imports, according to Platts.

  • "Brazil's LNG import volumes are forecast to increase in the coming weeks in response to scheduled maintenance on the Rota 1 offshore gas pipeline," Leonardo Gomes, LNG Analyst told Platts.
  • The 10 mcm/d pipeline supplies Brazil’s natural gas market in key cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
  • LNG imports into Brazil in Jan were 220k mt, around 85% of the 13-month high volumes which arrived in November, according to Platts. However, imports had fallen to zero in December.
  • Of the total for January, 77% of the volumes arrived from the USA, with the rest imported from Trinidad.
