BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Remain Stable

UK Total Retail Sales increased slightly to +2.7% (vs +2.5% prior), although Like-For-Like Sales rose at +2.6% - the same level as October.

  • Total Retail Sales is now above the 3-month average growth of +2.6% but remains below the 12-month average growth of +4.1%.
  • The main driver of the increase in sales growth continues to be Food Sales which is increasing for the month of November Y/Y and grew +7.6% over the three-months to November, although the rate of growth is slowing.
  • Meanwhile, Non-Food Sales continue to fall -1.6% over the three-months to November, and below the 12-month average growth of +0.5%.
  • ONS retail sales (ex-fuel) rose +4.0% Y/Y in value-terms in October. The ONS series continues to run ahead of the BRC retail sales, but indicates that in value terms the ONS series is unlikely to see a meaningful rise in November.
