Bulgaria Pulls in First Gas Cargo via Turkish LNG Port

Turkey shipped its first cargo of natural gas to neighbouring Bulgaria as the European nation aims to move away from Russian flows.

  • About 55 million cubic meters was sent by pipeline across the border – sourced from a US LNG shipment.
  • In January, Turkey gave Bulgaria access to its LNG terminals, opening up alternative supply routes from Russian gas.
  • The agreement is for 1.5bcm of capacity – about 50% of Bulgaria’s annual consumption. It is understood Bulgaria can increase that capacity if required.
