Bulgaria Seeks to Amend Gazprom Supply Contract

Bulgaria has sent a letter to Gazprom seeking to amend the gas supply contract with the Russian company.

  • Bulgaria’s government is offering changes to the existing contract, including an option to extend supplies from the end of 2022 to spring 2023 according to Bloomberg.
  • Bulgaria may pay under the currency conversion mechanism offered by Gazprom, but will seek to avoid advance payments
  • Bulgaria is expecting an answer today or Monday at the latest according to Interim Energy Minister Rosen Hristov
  • Bulgaria is reportedly in talks for gas supplies from Azerbaijan and Turkey but has agreed just one of seven LNG cargoes from US Cheniere for October due to the cost of securing LNG terminal slots.
