President Biden has dispatched his Cabinet secretaries on a nationwide tour this week to tout the administration’s efforts to “reduce costs.” NBC reports: “As part of the tour, 18 Cabinet members and senior White House officials will hold more than two dozen events in 15 states in the days leading up to the first presidential debate between Biden and Donald Trump.”
- NBC notes: “Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, for instance, will hold events in Las Vegas and Reno in Nevada focused on energy costs. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will discuss efforts to reduce housing costs in Minnesota. Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su will discuss efforts to boost workers’ wages in Georgia.”
- On Thursday, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will make a “major announcement” on new actions to combat fentanyl trafficking in Atlanta, Georgia.
- Treasury notes, Yellen will also engage with the private sector, including regional financial institutions to discuss their crucial role in identifying, flagging, and preventing illicit use of the U.S. financial system by cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and other bad actors.
- A recent Bloomberg/Morning Consult survey found that, "8 in 10 swing-state voters say that fentanyl misuse is a “very important” or “somewhat important” issue when deciding who to vote for in November — more than the number who cite abortion, climate change, labor and unions, or the wars in Ukraine and Gaza."
- NBC notes that, "the Cabinet tour began Monday and will conclude next Thursday, on the day of the first Biden-Trump debate."
