CHINA: China will actively take measures to counter protectionist trade
challenges from the U.S., according to a statement posted Wednesday on the
website of the Ministry of Commerce. The so-called No. 232 and No. 301 U.S.
investigations, which look into steel and aluminum imports as well as probe
China's alleged infringement of intellectual property, will "seriously endanger
multi-lateral trade systems," the ministry said. 
***Comment: China's reaction to the Trump administration's latest salvo is still
measured. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said Tuesday China will avoid a trade war
and further open its economy and financial sector, which it hopes will fend off
criticism that China has benefitted the most from current global trading
systems.
