China’s CNOOC Re-exports LNG Cargo: Kpler

China’s CNOOC has re-exported an LNG cargo from the Ningbo receiving terminal for the first time, according to Kpler.

  • China has previously only re-exported LNG cargoes from the Yangpu LNG terminal In Hainan, shipping nine cargoes in 2023 so far.
  • The Kool Frost tanker left Ningbo Sep. 1, carrying a 155,2000 m3 cargo and was purchased by Japan’s Kansai electric.
  • Kansai likely bought the cargo to meet increased demand due to high temperatures in Japan, Kpler said.
  • Other Japanese utilities have recently bought spot cargoes, following concerns over disruptions linked to strikes affecting the Gorgon and Wheatstone plants.
