China’s Natgas Demand Growth to Slow in Summer 2024

China’s natural gas demand during summer 2024 – April until September – is expected to increase 6.7% year on year to 194.9bcm, with most increases seen in gas burn in the transport and power sectors according to BNEF.

  • Industrial natural gas consumption is expected to face strong headwinds during summer due to the property sector crisis. Industrial gas use is forecast to rise by 5.6% on the year.
  • China’s LNG imports in summer 2024 are expected at 36.4mn tons, or 50.2bcm, up from 34.3mn tons last year. Last summer, LNG imports rose by 31.2% year on year.
