China’s Q1 LNG Imports Soar 20% on Year: OilChem

China imported 19.85m mt of LNG in Q1, up 20.43% on the year, according to OilChem, citing GACC data.

  • The rise was attributed to a low base in 2023 when the covid-zero policy had only recently been scrapped. Lower LNG import prices have also helped to boost imports in 2024.
  • The main importers were Australia – 6.28m mt, Qatar – 5.23m mt, Malaysia – 2.32m mt, and Russia – 1.67m mt.
