Chinese Power demand Growth Eases In 2022

China’s power consumption rose by 3.6% year on year to 8,637TWh in 2022, compared with the 2021 year-on-year growth of 10.3%, National Energy Administration data show.

  • This marks the lowest growth rate since 2016, data from the China Electricity Council show.
  • Weaker economic growth and Covid-19 related curbs weighed on the country’s power demand.
