Cold Weather Resulted in Above Normal EU Storage Withdrawal Rate

European storage is down to 84.19% full as at 17 Dec after above normal storage withdrawals due to higher demand during the recent cold weather according to the latest GIE AGSI data.

  • German total gas consumption has increased from 27% below the 2018 to 2021 average in November to just 5% below last week according to THE data via Bundesnetzagentur.
  • Storage withdrawals have averaged 0.56% per day during the last couple of weeks compared to the five year average of 0.47% per day at this time of year.
  • The countries with the largest gas in store volumes are Germany at 216.49TWh (87.96% full), Italy at 164.87TWh (85.23%), France at 112.75TWh (84.39%) and Netherlands at 109.96Wh (79.14%).
