Committees To Begin Debates On EU-UK Deal Next Week

EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

European Parliament chief spokesman Jaume Duch tweets: "Trade and Cooperation agreement entered into force on a provisional basis on 1/1/21. Provisional implementation is to remain a unique exception. @EP_ForeignAff and @EP_Trade with all associated committees now prepare Parliament's consent decision. Parliamentary oversight starts next week with a debate in @EP_Trade (11/1) and a joint meeting of @EP_ForeignAff @EP_Trade (13/1). Other @Europarl_EN committees will meet to evaluate the impact of the EU-UK deal on their respective policies."

  • The European Parliament had previously released a press statement on 28 Dec regarding the implementation of an EU-UK deal following its announcement on 24 Dec.
  • The EU-UK deal still has to be ratified by the European Parliament. At present, while in force, the deal is only applied provisionally.
