Congress Grants Confidence Vote To Prime Minister's Cabinet

  • During a plenary session, the Congress of the Republic on Tuesday night granted a vote of confidence to the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Alberto Otarola.
  • The cabinet was ratified by Congress on Tuesday by a comfortable vote of 73 to 43. Given the developments surrounding the social unrest, and the number of deaths associated to anti-government protests, the vote split was wider than markets may have been expecting.
  • Analysts have noted that the ratification vote provides the Boluarte regime with much needed oxygen and a time of heightened political uncertainty.
