Crude, Gasoil and Gasoline Net Longs Gain on the Week

OIL POSITIONING

Crude managed money net long positions last week increased to the highest since early May according to Commitments of Traders data released on Friday. The combined net long positions for Brent and WTI increased by +10k to 346k to continue to the recovery from a low of just 194k at the start of July.

  • WTI positions rose to the highest in 12 weeks, but the Brent net longs dipped on the week after seeing a rally since May.
  • ICE Gasoil net positions extended the recent gains up to the highest since March although Nymex diesel net longs reduced on the week. Nymex gasoline net longs turned slightly more bullish and also up to a three month high.
    • ICE Brent net longs fell by -40k to 193k
    • Nymex WTI net longs increased by +45k to 173k
    • ICE Gasoil increased by +9k to +41k
    • Nymex diesel fell by -5k to +19k
    • Nymex gasoline increased by +7k to 65k
