US DATA PREVIEW
US DATA PREVIEW: DB economists expect Thursday's 8:30am ET US Sept. PPI to show
"headline PPI prices (+0.5% vs. +0.2%)" that are "bolstered by energy, while
core PPI inflation (+0.2% vs. +0.1%) should rise more modestly."
- They will "pay close attention to the health care industries component of the
PPI, which is used by the BEA to calculate health care services inflation in the
core PCE deflator, the Fed's preferred inflation metric. Recall that health care
services also have the highest weighting within the core PCE deflator (around
19%) and this particular component has been a perennial source of weakness for
much of the current business cycle. This is partly due to legislated changes to
Medicare reimbursement rates."
