Drones Hit Moscow Office Towers; Finance Minister says RUB Weakening Due to Trade Balance

  • Drones hit two office towers in Moscow and prompted the temporary closure of one of the city’s international airports during an overnight attack that Russia blamed on Ukraine, Bloomberg report. The two drones that hit buildings were brought down using electronic jamming, while a third was shot down by air defenses, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a Telegram statement Sunday. Ukraine has not commented.
  • The recent depreciation of the ruble is mostly attributable to the country's trade balance, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said in an interview with TASS. "We need the ruble's exchange rate to remain predictable,” he said, but added that the ministry is not considering holding and regulating the exchange rate.
  • The CBR will publish a report on monetary policy today. Retail sales and unemployment rate data are the highlights later this week.
