Eagle Ford Shale Gas Output Growth to 2030: Kinder Morgan

NATGAS

Strong natural gas production growth is expected in Eagle Ford Shale out to 2030 due to favourable economics and the low nitrogen content of natural gas produced according to Kinder Morgan via S&P Global.

  • Kinder Morgan "would project 2.5bcf/d of growth" by 2030, although this differs to Wood Mackenzie forecasts of 0.5bcf/d growth between 2023 and 2030.
  • Natural gas production from the Eagle Ford Shale averaged 5.2 bcf/d in 2023, according to S&P Global data.
  • Economics in the lean Eagle Ford, particularly Webb County, "probably rival that of the Haynesville," Mody said.
  • The production growth will help meet rising demand from LNG terminals said natural gas president Sital Mody.
  • The company sees opportunities to blend high-nitrogen gas from the Permian with dry Eagle Ford gas for nitrogen-sensitive Gulf Coast LNG demand.
  • Nitrogen content of gas in LNG is typically below 1% to prevent tank damage and to maximize the heating value.
