Economy Minister Discussing Long-Term Price Controls

  • The government is in talks with business leaders over a long-term plan to control prices, Economy Minister Sergio Massa told Radio Rivadavia on Sunday.
  • Massa indicated that he opposed freezing prices because “as a method, I understand it doesn’t work”. The new program, called Fair Prices (Precios Justos), wouldn’t just control prices month-by-month, but over the longer term.
  • Massa also said the government would raise the minimum threshold for paying income tax to over 300,000 pesos as well as in the next two weeks, the government will unveil program to buy televisions, air-conditioners and some mobile phones in 30 quotas at reduced interest rates.
