EEX May Power Trading Volumes Rose 47% YoY

Power volumes traded on the EEX grew by 47% on the year in May to 952.5TWh, largely driven by an increase in French, Spanish and Japanese volumes, EEX said.

  • French power derivates rose by 140% on the year, followed by Spanish derivates that grew by 129% on the year and Japanese derivates by 128% year on year.
  • The new Nordic Zonal Futures traded a total of 0.7TWh since the end of March. Volumes stood at 0.5TWh in May.
  • Trading volumes in the EEX Nordic System Price Futures offering increased by 453% year on year.
  • European power spot market volumes rose by 28% on the year. The German and Dutch Epex Spot intraday markets reached a monthly record of 9TWh and 1.5TWh, respectively.
