Egypt to Import Partial LNG Cargo amid Gas Shortage

LNG

A partial LNG cargo is approaching Egypt’s LNG terminal, possibly signalling that the country is looking to fill gaps in its supply with additional imports, Bloomberg said.

  • The Maran Gas Kalymnos is outside of Ain Sukhna FSRU on the Red Sea, Bloomberg said.
  • Egypt seldom imports LNG amid domestic production and pipeline gas imports from Israel. Egypt typically is a net exporter.
  • Israel-Egypt Natural Gas Flows: Egypt’s natural gas imports from Israel are currently at 250mcf/d, compared with 800mcf/d normally, a person with knowledge of the matter told Bloomberg.
  • This will call into question whether Egypt will be able to export LNG cargoes as planned during the winter; ENI’s CEO said Nov. 1 that he expects to export LNG from Egypt.
  • BNEF estimates Egypt will export 2.7m mt of LNG this winter, revised down from an earlier forecast of 4.4m mt.
