EIA Oil Supply Adjustment at Record High

OIL

The EIA data yesterday showed the oil supply adjustment factor (unaccounted oil) at a record of 2.415mb/d in data back to 2002.

  • The data has been showing large positive adjustments this year suggesting an overestimation of crude exports, overstating demand and underestimation domestic production.
  • Earlier this year EIA announced steps to improve the accuracy of oil data and change the way it calculates crude oil supply and disposition after fluctuations in the weekly data. EIA will categorise blended products as “transfers to crude oil supply” instead of the “supplied,” and will look to include condensate production in overall crude output.
