Election Updates, Latest IPEC Runoff Poll Due

  • Ipec will release electoral polls on the presidential race runoff.
  • Economists linked to the PT party are studying the creation of mechanisms to limit the growth of expenses in an eventual Lula Administration, reports Folha de S.Paulo newspaper, citing people close to the matter.
    • The plan is to carry out gradual, rather than immediate, implementation of measures that demand more resources from the Treasury.
    • Strategy would reduce pressure on the 2023 Budget, as well as decrease the size of the additional expense allowance to be negotiated with Congress, with the goal of reducing market fears about fiscal risk. (Bloomberg)
  • Lula said he has already talked to Simone Tebet, the third-placed candidate in the country’s presidential election, during a press conference in Sao Paulo this Tuesday.
    • Lula said he is in talks with the PSD party and that he expects the party declares national support for his candidacy on Thursday.
