Reports emerging that the entire voter registration system in the Commonwealth of Virginia is down due to a fibre optic cable being cut.

  • WUSA9 reporting that the cable was cut accidentally. Nevertheless, the incident means that nobody in the state will be able to register to vote in Virginia on the cut-off day to register.
  • No suggestion of any foul play involved.
  • According to opinion polls Virginia, with its 13 electoral college votes, is likely to be a safe state for Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
