EP President Sassoli Self-Isolates After Staff Member Contracts COVID-19

European Parliament President David Sassoli has entered a period of self-isolation following one of his staff members receiving a positive COVID-19 test.

  • This means that the leaders of the EU's three primary institutions: the Council, the Commission, and the Parliament, have all had to enter COVID-19 self-isolation at some point over the past month, although so far none have returned positive tests themselves.
  • Sassoli tweets: 'I was recently in contact with a member of my staff who today tested positive for COVID-19. I am fine and have no symptoms. In accordance with the rules, I'll be self-isolating for the required period to carry out the necessary checks.'
