Erdogan Looks to Take Lead Role in Grain Exports corridor solution

  • In a bilateral call with Russian President Putin and President Erdogan, the two leaders discussed the importance of economic cooperation as well as the situation in Ukraine, with the Kremlin readout of the call specifically mentioning the importance of the use of national currencies in international transactions.
  • The two leaders also discussed ways in which to coordinate efforts to ensure the safe navigation of the Black Sea, facilitating the export of grain to global markets.
  • Shortly after his call with Putin, wires confirmed that Erdogan then spoke to Ukraine’s Zelensky on the topic of grain corridors, suggesting solutions for the export channel could be forthcoming at the Russia-Turkey which may take place “soon”.
